I’m not gonna lie; I hate hot weather. For someone who spends an absurd amount of time at Disney World, I mostly hate the weather. So I’ve become adept at packing to keep myself comfortable.
Now I’d like to let you all know some of my secrets. From some things to wear to keep cool to accessories to have on hand, packing for any kind of weather is a skill. But for folks like me who sweat like crazy, packing for heat is an excruciating process.
Let me make it less excruciating for you.
1. Cooling Towels
Frogg Toggs / Amazon
Ah, cooling towels. They look so silly, but they help so much.
You must wet these towels, wring them out, and place them around your neck. The evaporating water keeps you cool and is immensely comforting on a 100-degree day.
My most extensive advice with these is to handwash them in the sink each day after you wear the towel. If you don’t, these get stinky fast.
2. Cotton Clothing
Hanes / Amazon
Even if your internal temperature seems to run hotter than the average person (me), wear cotton. Cotton is going to keep you cooler than any other material. Synthetic materials make you sweat more.
Cotton shirts, dresses, and pants are the way to go. Bring a cotton kaftan or cover-up if you’re headed to the beach. Even if these clothing pieces are a little more expensive, it’s well worth it.
3. Vai Athletica Bras
I have worn my Vai Athletica bras all over the world. From sweltering summer weather in Florida to long days wandering Europe in the summer and returning home in painfully humid Chicago, Vai bras are the only ones I can swear by.
These bras wick the sweat away from me without creating terrible staining. The built-in pockets give me storage without loading myself with heavy pants or extra bags.
Not to mention that these bras handwash in the sink exceptionally well. Even if I feel like they stink after a long, sweaty day (they rarely do), I can wash them, and they’ll generally be dry again the next day.
4. Hiking Sandals
Muboliy / Amazon
I have never been the kind of person who wears hiking sandals, even in horrendous heat. But my Muboliy knock-off Teva sandals have converted me.
These cute and comfy hiking sandals got me through nearly 50 miles of walking at Disneyland without pain or blisters. I’ve never had a pair of tennis shoes that could say the same. I’ve always wanted to be the kind of person who wears sandals all day on a Disney day, and these are the only way I can do that.
5. Neck Fan
TORRAS / Amazon
If cooling towels aren’t quite your style, or you’d like another accessory option, consider investing in a TORRAS neck fan. More expensive than a handheld, portable fan, these neck fans let you be hands-free.
Let me tell you, the handheld fans are great until they suck your hair in and get stuck to your head. The TORRAS neck fan is blade-free, so you don’t have to worry about the wind getting your hair chewed off.
Your neck fan will become your new favorite travel accessory. I can guarantee it.
